Guyana: 52-year-old arrested for possessing 147.6 grams of narcotics
A 52-year-old hired car driver of Riverstown Essequibo Coast was apprehended by Guyana Police in Regional POLICE Division 2. It is to be noted that the man was arrested for the offence of possessing 119 grams of cannabis and 28.6 grams of cocaine.

A 52-year-old hired car driver of Riverstown Essequibo Coast was apprehended by Guyana Police in Regional POLICE Division 2. It is to be noted that the man was arrested for the offence of possessing 119 grams of cannabis and 28.6 grams of cocaine.
Notably, the suspect has been identified as Madho Persaud. As per the reports, the authorities were on patrol duty when they saw a car heading in the opposite direction, and then it made a sudden turn and headed towards the east.
Subsequently, the car was stopped by the authorities, and they found Persaud was the only occupant in the vehicle. The higher-ranked officer asked to conduct a search of the vehicle, to which the suspect, Madho Persaud, agreed.
According to the information, the authorities held a search for the man, but they found nothing from him. Later, the officers conducted a search of the car. During the process of investigation, the officers found two separate plastic bags.
The first bag contained things including
- A quantity of leaves
- A quantity of seeds
- A quantity of stems, which is suspected to be cannabis, is wrapped with transparent plastic.
Meanwhile, the other bag contained things including,
- A piece of hard, whitish, creamish substance suspected to be cocaine.
The authorities seized the suspect, Madho Persaud, told him of the offence he had committed and cautioned him about it. He was then taken to the Anna Regina Police Station along with the car, from where the authorities discovered the suspected cannabis and cocaine.
Both the items were weighed by the authorities; the suspected cannabis weighed 119 grams, and the cocaine weighed 28.6 grams.
Various residents of the community took to their social media accounts and expressed their views on the matter.
One person commented, “Jail him for a very long time. Such people are always up to doing something wrong.”
Another person commented, “Great efforts by the Guyana Police; such arrests give us confidence that the safety of the nation is in secure hands.”
