Gudakesh Motie announces ICC Player of Month award for May 2024

The International Cricket Council announced Gudakesh Motie, the winner of ICC Player of the Month award for May 2024. The achievement is a testament to the unwavering commitment and dedication of the player towards excellence in the field of cricket.

Motie was nominated for the award following his impressive performance at the 3 Twenty20 Internationals against South Africa. He was one of the significant bowlers in the home series against South Africa who claimed 8 wickets in total at an average of 8.50. The player took three wickets each in the first and second game of the series by giving away 25 and 22 runs respectively.

And, in the final game, the player claimed two wickets which helped West Indies win the series by 3-0. Gudakesh Motie is currently playing the ICC Men’s Cricket T20 World Cup 2024 and his impressive spell of three wickets against New Zealand has played a huge role in leading West Indies qualify for the Super 8 round of ICC World Cup 2024.

The other players who were nominated for the award includes, Shaheen Shah Afridi, left-arm bowler of Pakistan and Lorcan Tucker, the wicket-keeper batsman of Ireland. This victory by Motie made him the second West Indies player to have claimed the title of ICC Player of the Month after Shamar Joseph.

Following his victory, Gudakesh Motie expressed gratitude on winning the award and stated that he is exceptionally happy to claim the title. He further noted that he has worked a lot for this accomplishment which shed light on the hard work that he has put in to the game.
