Graph of COVID-19 related death rate increases in Barbados

Barbados: The number of Barbadians lost to coronavirus increased to 36, on February 28, when three Barbadian ladies died because of the viral ailment. 

Health & Wellness reported the first was an 85-year-old citizen of a nursing home who passed away at 1:15 pm midday. Just after an hour later, at 2:25, the second woman, a 64-year-old, died at Enmore. This was followed at 6 pm with the third lady, an 88-year-old citizen of a nursing home. 

All three suffered symptoms and tested coronavirus positive on various dates during February.

The Minister of Health, Lt Col Hon Jeffrey Bostic, extends his heartiest sympathies to the families and other closed ones.

The Minister urged the public, “while the Ministry believes that the worst of the current coronavirus outbreak is dwindling, we still have some distance to go before we are in a position of safety. 

Now that the country is reopening, members of the public must follow every caution in all interactions and continue adopting the health and safety protocols. Relaxation of these efforts could have a disastrous impact.”

“As the saying goes, ‘coronavirus loves crowds.’ Any setting with crowds and many strangers, where there is no social distancing, presents a risk. We should also remember that it is with those to whom we are closest that we are most likely to let down our protect. 

Therefore, social gatherings with friends and family present some element of danger. We must not equate this start of the reopening process as a time of relaxation. We still have to be extremely vigilant if we are not to suffer a reversal of the gains we have made.”

On the other hand, the government of Barbados stated, The Ministry of Health & Wellness advises members of the public that effective Monday, March 1, 2021, no walk-ins will be allowed at polyclinics for COVID-19 vaccinations. Only those persons with appointments will be accommodated.
