The GDF Coast Guard rendered timely assistance to a disabled small boat 12 nautical miles off the East Coast of the Essequibo River and rescued three crew members on Thursday. Their efforts and immediate reaction towards rendering their services was highly lauded by the citizens of the country.
As per the details, the GDF Coast Guard received information about a disabled small boat and crew in the Demerara River. The boat left the Harbour Bridge to deliver supplies to MV PROSPERITY 1, which was anchored 12 nautical miles offshore the Demerara River Mouth.
According to the information, the Coast Guard held two separate searches. During the search, the disabled vessel was located at approximately 12 nautical miles off the East Coast of Essequibo and around 10 miles off its intended target with three crew members on board.
The disabled vessel was later towed back to the GDF Coast Guard Headquarters. Following their act of service, the citizens of Guyana took to their social media accounts and appreciated the work done by GDF Coast Guard and extended them best wishes.
One person with Facebook account Mala Bhola wrote “Well done keep up the good work congratulations to Guyana defence force.” Another person with Facebook handle commented the following “Congratulations to you GDF Cadets for your quick and timely response in rescuing the three-member crew on board the small vessel.”
Moreover, the Guyana Defence Force has also recently dispatched troops and essential supplies to Grenada to assist in critical rebuilding efforts. The contingent’s main body is comprised of one (1) officer and forty-nine (49) ranks. Their arrival marks the unwavering efforts by the GDF to support Grenada’s recovery following the passage of Hurricane Beryl, which impacted the nation’s infrastructure. Upon their arrival, the troops were welcomed by the Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell, who extended gratitude to the Government and the Guyanese People.
Such acts of the GDF shed light on their commitment towards always being there to help not only their countrymen but also the neighbouring nations who are currently going through challenging times.
