The Guyana fire service added that the one-flat wooden and concrete building was owned by Nigel Anderson who is 42 years old. He resides with his family which included 37 years old Shonnette Anderson, 11 years old Michael Anderson, 15 years old Waveny Anderson, 6 years old Cynthia Anderson and the 4 years old Junior Anderson.

As per the investigations, the fire caught the field due to the reason the children were playing with the matchsticks. The naked flames ignited a mattress which then set nearby combustible materials on fire that spread out the flames throughout the building.

The reports stated that after the incident, three children were left in the care of a teenager. And, the teen gave the statement that she left the children playing and went to lie down, subsequently falling asleep.

The charred remains were later uncovered by firefighters after the fire was extinguished.

The GFS (Guyana Fire Services) after this incident is extending a call to the parents and guardians to educate the children on dangers of fire starters which include matches and lighters. As well, the fire services warned them about their use.

“Do not leave children unattended or at home without adult supervision,” mentioned the Guyana Fire Services.

While extending the advice, the GFS also added, “Keep children away from the cooking area, and ensure matches and lighters are out of their reach at all times.
