The Farmer Field School (FFS) in Dominica organizes weekly sessions in collaboration with WUSC (World University Service of Canada) and CARDI (Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute). This aims at introducing new techniques and technologies for white potato cultivation.

Roseau, Dominica: The Farmer Field School (FFS) in Dominica organizes weekly sessions in collaboration with WUSC (World University Service of Canada) and CARDI (Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute). The aim of the session is to introduce new techniques and technologies for white potato cultivation.
WUCS is a Canadian non-profit organization aimed at improving education, economic, and empowerment opportunities for youth around the world. CARDI aims at improving the quality of lives of the people of the Caribbean region through agricultural research and innovation without comprising biodiversity, biosafety, environment sustainability, and human health.
The sessions organized at schools are gaining a lot of recognition island-wide. By this, the farmers within the East Agricultural Region established their collective plots. They will go on to establish their individual holdings as a follow-up to work done and the principles of learning by doing as demonstrated on the FFS (Farmer Field School) plot.
The methodology of FFS (Farmer Field School) generally seeks to introduce new techniques and technology to groups of farmers by integrating theoretical and practical sessions. This will lead to easier adoption and understanding.
The information for this has been shared by the Agriculture Ministry of the country, Dominica. Such information even extends an update for the White Potato. The ministry shared some glimpses also regarding the same on their social media.
One of the citizens appreciated the work of the Ministry also and mentioned “Let’s go, well done. All the contributors played their role and the atmosphere is positive, the farmers are working.”
Such words by the public reflect their expressions towards the authorities as they are doing great for the growth and development of the agriculture sector of the country. The ministry is taking so many actions for the success of the sector.
Recently, Dasheen Value Chain development project was held in the country and the Food Agriculture Organization. This is for the domestic, regional and international markets through the training of private and public sector representatives.
