Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Dr Denzil Llewellyn Douglas, the Foreign Minister of St Kitts and Nevis shared a few glimpses of Sugar Mas 52 J’ouvert through his Facebook account.
He stated that he had a great time interacting and meeting with the residents of the nation, friends and visitors on the parade route.
He appreciated the Security Forces who came out in numbers and enjoyed themselves. He also praised people for keeping the carnival sweet, clean and violence-free.
Moreover, the Road March was evaluated on J’ouvert morning exclusively with the competition held at three different locations namely, The Circus, Bay Road and Church Street.
Notably, the performances of the contenders were judged with a comprehensive 100-point system that reviewed performance, music, crowd response and lyrics.
Performance was judged on the basis of 40 points, 25 points for presentation and 15 for rendition. The judgement of music was conducted on the basis of 20 points: 5 for arrangement, 5 for melody, 5 points for quality of sound and 5 points for originality.
The judgement of lyrics will be conducted on the basis of 15 points with 5 points each for Content, Word Craft and Creativity. The crowd response was judged on the basis of 25 points.
Furthermore, the live coverage of the parades will also be conducted. The next National Junior Carnival Parade will air live on 30th December at 12:30 pm, the National Grand Parade on 1st January at 10:30 am and the Grand Carnival Parade Last Lap on 2nd January at 1:30 pm.
The result of the Competition:
For the small troops, Grand Masters Addicts secured the third position with 259 points, Fantasy came in as the first runner-up with 279 points and Axe Band was declared as the winner of Small Troops with 301 points.
For large troops, Extreme J’ouvert came in as the second runner-up with 191 points, Chatterbox in the second position with 223 points and Red Devils is the winner of Large Troops with 229 points.
In terms of Road March, Ken and Barbie secured third position with 740 points, Grand Masters Band secured second position with 751 points and Small Axe Band Showcase stood first with 816 points.
