Dr Denzil Douglas congratulates SKNDF first female certified driver, Private Letonia Demming
Minister of Foreign Affairs of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Denzil Douglas extended congratulations to Private Letonia Demming of St Kitts and Nevis Defence Force Coast Guard for becoming the first female to complete the RSS Operational Dive Course and become the certified driver.

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Minister of Foreign Affairs of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Denzil Douglas extended congratulations to Private Letonia Demming of St Kitts and Nevis Defence Force Coast Guard for becoming the first female to complete the RSS Operational Dive Course and become the certified driver.
The Regional Security System’s Operational Dive Course was conducted in collaboration with the Barbados Coast Guard. The course was a seven-week programme which started on Monday, 12th February 2024 and continued till Thursday, 28th March 2024 and took place in Barbados.
While extending wishes, Dr Denzil Douglas took to his official Facebook account and said “Congratulations, Private Letonia Demming, FIRST FEMALE CERTIFIED DIVER BY THE RSS.”
The officers from the RSS Member States introduced several diving techniques and underwater safety procedures and methods in order to teach the essential skills which are required to serve the duties of the SKNDF Coast Guard effectively and efficiently.
This exceptional achievement by Private L Demming reflects her unwavering commitment and dedication towards accomplishing his goal and breaking all the stereotypes. It also highlights the diversity of the Force as it provided an opportunity for both males and females to operate equally in safeguarding and protecting the Maritime environment and St Kitts and Nevis.
The RSS Operational Dive Course played a huge role in enhancing and improving her techniques and skills and in teaching her the precautions and measures to follow during maritime environmental challenges.
Private Letonia Demming’s success outlines her dedication and focus towards her aim and by achieving the certificate, she has set up an example and paved the way for many young girls who want to serve to their nation’s St Kitts and Nevis Defence Coast Guard.
