Dominica to host inaugural OECS Youth in Agriculture Symposium

Roseau, Dominica: Dominica is all set to host the inaugural Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Youth in Agriculture Symposium which has been scheduled to take place in the island nation for three days. It will host events of activities which will run from 7th and will continue till 9th August 2024 at Windsor Park under the theme “Growing the Future and Harvesting Dreams.”

This symposium will be conducted with a vision to raise awareness about the agriculture sector among the young individuals. The authorities stated that these individuals are the future of agriculture and will play a crucial role in ensuring food security and access to processed commodities.

This symposium will give an opportunity to several of youth from the eight OECS territories to come together and channelize their thoughts and energies into preparing a declaration that will serve as a guiding document. This declaration will address various aspects such as access to credit, market creation, utilization of innovation in agriculture and many more with a vision to elevate agriculture sector to greater heights.

Several events will be held during the symposium in order to offer participants a unique experience on the “nature island.” The events include,

Panel Discussions: All the attendees will get an opportunity to listen to industry trailblazers, accomplished young farmers and specialists in agriculture sector as they will share insights on the latest advancements and trends in agriculture department.

Workshops and Mentorships: The authorities will also be hosting engaging workshops and mentorship session, covering broad spectrum of topics. The topics that will be highlighted during workshop includes, research, innovation and technology, agri-business development, and the role that youth can play in decision making and governance within the agricultural sector.

Networking Opportunities: It is a great opportunity for the attendees to network with like-minded individuals, mentors and stakeholders within the agricultural industry and collaborate for something innovative.

Trade Fair: The OECS Youth in Agriculture trade fair will take place on 7th August 2024 at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium Forecourt. It is a great opportunity for several young people from Dominica and OECS to showcase their creations, businesses, and commodities.
