Dominica: PM Roosevelt Skerrit discusses ways to enhance education system with principals
Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, conducted a meeting with the secondary school principals on May 08, 2023 (Monday).

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, conducted a meeting with the secondary school principals on May 08, 2023 (Monday). The meeting was productive and fruitful as essential aspects of the education system were discussed.
The information regarding the meeting was shared on the official social media page of PM Roosevelt Skerrit. “Meeting with secondary school principals to discuss a proposed review of the education system to enhance student learning, experience and outcomes,” the update read.
As per the government of Dominica, the meeting was attended by the Minister of Education, Octavia Alfred. The update on social media informed, “Education Minister Octavia Alfred and Parliamentary Secretary Fenella Wenham-Sheppard are also participating in the meeting.”
Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit also expressed pleasure and stated that he was glad and delighted to meet the principals of the secondary school. The discussions between the PM and teachers focused on ways to enhance teaching in the country.
“I met earlier today with secondary school principals to discuss a proposed review of the curriculum to enhance teaching and learning in our schools,” he stated.
Moreover, the meeting follows the recently held Crime and Violence Symposium in Trinidad, where PM Skerrit stressed the need for reform of the region’s education systems to promote a greater focus on the well-being and holistic development of the children of Dominica.
While assuring about a better and more modern education system in the country, PM Roosevelt Skerrit mentioned that his government would continue to develop plans and strategies which would focus on the educational sector.
He anticipated, “I look forward to further engagement on the matter as we develop new, relevant structures and approaches to “Educate and Prepare all Students to Live Productive Lives in a Complex and Changing Society,” as stated in the Mission of the Ministry of Education.”
Many Dominicans praised Prime Minister for conducting such meetings, whereas some even anticipated great results out of these. A Dominican user named Coraley Thomas mentioned, “Looking forward to great results from these meetings with our secondary and primary educators. At the end of it all…our children matter.”
Yet another named Suzanne Henderson commented, “That’s great. Visionary Prime minister,” and the third one stated, “Prime Minister has been doing great for each and every Dominica. Great stuff!!! Good education is fundamental!”
