Dominica: Ministry of Housing to host Disaster Resilience and Financing Symposium

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is to host the Disaster Resilience and Financing Symposium for the Housing Sector on March 13 and 14, 2024 at Goodwill Parish Hall at 8:30 am. Housing and Physical Planning agencies, financial institutions, builders, engineers, architects and academia can participate in the Symposium.

Roseau, Dominica: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has extended an invitation to the stakeholders like contractors, engineers, architects, financial institutes and many others. The extended call is aimed at exchanging the ideas to build back better to combat the impacts of climate change.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is to host the Disaster Resilience and Financing Symposium for the Housing Sector on March 13 and 14, 2024 at Goodwill Parish Hall at 8:30 am. Housing and Physical Planning agencies, financial institutions, builders, engineers, architects and academia can participate in the Symposium.

The scheduled Symposium has certain objectives which prove the dedication and commitment of the Government towards the sustainable development of the country. These include exchanging knowledge gained through implementation of housing reconstruction and resilience projects. 

Moreover, developing a roadmap of priorities for building resilience in the housing sector and identifying financing opportunities to support the resilience roadmap are the two key objectives included in it.

The event would bridge physical and financial solutions to improve disaster resilience. Dominica is on the path of being the World’s First Climate Resilient Nation by 2030. The dedication and commitment of the officials towards attaining the resilient goals.

In 2017, Hurricane Maria led to the destruction of the country, Dominica and the severe conditions resulted in major damage. The infrastructure and the lives of the general public got disturbed to the extent.

The government remained committed and dedicated towards rebuilding the country and has been doing every possible thing for the recovery. In this concern, the government has handed over the significant count of keys of climate resilient houses to the deserving families. 

Even the housing minister, Melissa Skerrit has made an announcement for the distribution of 40 homes to be completed by this month, that is March 2024 which has enhanced the infrastructural growth of Dominica. This would even direct towards the overall growth and development of the country.

Under the resilient agenda, the authorities are making investments and organizing several events to build back better. Such investments and initiatives provide the signal of the Government’s dedication towards fulfilling the promises made.

The Disaster Resilience and Financing Symposium for the Housing Sector is going to be hosted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development with the collaboration of World Bank under the agenda of accomplishing resilient goals.

Just a few days back, the Housing Minister, Melissa Skerrit even announced the commencement of the development phase at Jimmit Phase 7 which will soon take place. Even this development has been announced with the collaborative efforts of the Housing Ministry and World Bank.
