Dominica hosts Caribbean Youth Forum on Environment and Development, promotes sustainability

Roseau, Dominica: Dominica is hosting the Caribbean Youth Forum on Environment and Development (CARYFED) with a vision to promote sustainable tourism by making optimum use of environmental resources and conserving natural heritage and biodiversity.

This forum is running in the island nation from 7th August and will continue till 17th August 2024 under the theme “Sustainable Eco-Tourism in the Caribbean.” For the same, the Discover Dominica Authority has partnered with Project Discovery Dominica- PODOM for the successful execution of the forum.

Project Discovery Dominica is the established local chapter of CARYFED that is dedicated to empowering pre-university students. It offers exciting opportunities for young people and are dedicated to nurturing talent, fostering innovation, and empowering the next generation of leaders across the island.

Through this collaboration, the Project Discovery Dominica aims to make a significant impact on the lives of disadvantaged and underserved young people through community service, research, and innovation projects. Their main mission is to facilitate the total development of students at the pre-university stage in order to link their academic development to community service and to make students more globally aware, literate, civically engaged and responsive to the needs of others.

This year’s forum will host a twelve-member contingent from Barbados and Trinidad. This initiative aligns with the commitment of the Discover Dominica Authority’s and Ministry of Tourism of Dominica of fostering global awareness, cultural literacy, and sustainable eco-tourism.

The forum will host several of events and activities such as seminars, workshops, outdoor expeditions, cultural activities, tours, hikes all with a motive to cover various topics for economic, social, and environmental issues in order to address and improve tourists’ experiences.

The Project is in collaboration between Barbados, Grenada, Dominica, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and St Kitts and Nevis. And, this is the first time that Dominica is participating in the activities.

The administrator of CARYFED, Beverly Leblanc stated that it is a huge thing for them as they participated last year and this year, they are hosting the event. He further asserted that whosoever will be coming to the Nature Isle, it will be the for the first time so it would play a huge and positive role towards the enhancement of the tourism product.

With the hosting of the forum, Dominica aims to empower their youth and advance sustainable development in the island nation. Also, the Caribbean nations are continuously making efforts and conducting forums and symposiums in order to become sustainable island state.
