Dominica celebrates Mother’s Day: PM Skerrit, Melissa Skerrit along with other ministers extend wishes
The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit along with his wife Melissa Skerrit, shared their heartiest wishes on the occasion of Mother’s Day with the world.

Roseau, Dominica: The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit along with his wife Melissa Poponne Skerrit, shared their heartiest wishes on the occasion of Mother’s Day with the world. This year, Mother’s Day is celebrated on 12th May 2024.
Every year, this auspicious day falls on the second Sunday in the month of May. This day is celebrated to honour mothers and motherly figures throughout the world. Everyone chooses this day to show love, gratitude and express through various gestures for their mother.
Joining the world, the leaders of the Commonwealth of Dominica also wished the mothers around the globe and expressed their love through their social media handles.
Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, poured his wishes to the amazing mothers of the country and extended gratitude for being the source of strength and guidance. He further shared that the mothers contribute as inspiration to the families and also towards the stability and progress of the nation.
PM Skerrit took to his social media to honour the mothers and their tireless contribution in our lives, “Happy Mother’s Day to the amazing moms of our country! Thank you for being a source of strength, guidance, and inspiration to our families and for your contribution to the stability and progress of our nation”.
“On behalf of the Government of Dominica, I wish you a wonderful day and God’s richest blessings”, the post further read.
In addition to this, Melissa Poponne Skerrit, the Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development, celebrated the mothers of Roseau Central by hosting Mother’s Day Sunset BBQ & Bingo on May 11th, 2024 at City Breeze Apartments. The evening was filled with exciting games, good food and music.
Melissa Poponne Skerrit, a mother herself, in a heartfelt message, expressed that ‘mothers are irreplaceable’. It is always an honour and pleasure to celebrate them as there is no love like mother’s love in this world.
Melissa Poponne Skerrit, the parliamentary representative of Roseau Central warmly wished all the mothers by sharing, “Happy Mother’s Day to the guiding light in our lives.” Commending the love and support of the mothers she went on to express that, ” Your unwavering Love, Resilience, and Nurturing Spirit inspire us Always.”
Joining the Skerrit couple other Ministers of Dominica also shared their sentiments for their mother’s and nations mothers on their special day.
Dr Irvin McIntyre, Minister of Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience and Social Security of Dominica greeted the mothers of the Roseau Valley constituency and the lovely island nation with a special wish. “Thank you for the love, support and guidance you continue to provide to our children. Wishing you a peaceful, Joyful and relaxing day! You are loved and appreciated” the heartwarming note highlighted.
Along with them, the Member of Parliament- Soufriere Constituency, Denise Charles Pemberton, invited all the mothers of the constituency for Mother’s Day breakfast at Scott’s Head, Dominica. Pemberton also collaborated to host ‘Mingle and Wine’ at Marshan’s Bar Pointe Michel Dominica. The timings will be 12 noon to 3:00 Pm.
Referring to her mother and to all the mothers as Queens, she conveyed her appreciation to mothers by wishing, “To all the remarkable mothers who have shaped our lives with love and care, today we celebrate you. Your strength, kindness and unwavering dedication have made the world better place. Thank you for all you do and may today be filled with the love and appreciation you deserve.” She ended the note with ‘We cherish you’.
