Guyana Defence Force acquires two aircrafts from India, strengthens defence capabilities

Guyana: The Defence Force of Guyana acquired Dornier 228 planes from India, which states the country’s strengthened position. The two acquired aircrafts are manufactured by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
In this connection, the Guyana Defence Force yesterday arrived at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport on two Boeing C -17 Globemaster military transport planes. The President of Guyana, Irfaan Ali even shared a visual glimpse of the same.
Such a purchase of aircrafts for the military presents an idea of enhancing the security capabilities. An agreement for the same was made between Guyanese Finance Minister, Ashni Singh and Deputy General Manager of India EXIM (Export Import) Bank, Amit Sahu on March 15, 2024.
This agreement between India and Guyana also states the relations between both the countries. Significantly, Guyana is a small Caribbean country, bordering Venezuela that requires multi-role aircraft for transporting troops and supplies in the region. And, the aircraft acquired will be utilized for troop movement and maritime patrols.
Probing Ahead, the purpose for acquiring the planes is to boost the defence capability, specifically in its Air Corp and Coast Guards. In one of the media statements, even the Finance Minister of Guyana, Dr Ashni Singh outlined that the President of Guyana paid a visit to India in January, 2023.
During a visit to India, President Irfaan Ali paid a visit to Kanpur HAL’s manufacturing facility and got inspired to sign Line of credit, agreed to purchase two aircrafts that will strengthen the defence capacity of Guyana.
People from the country are even appreciating such a move by the government of Guyana as one of the citizens mentioned, “ Finally we’ve started to boost our military.”
Such an action clearly states the government’s role towards fulfilling their responsibilities towards the country for making it safe and secure place for the individuals to live in.
