Cricket West Indies has suspended their star fast bowler, Alzarri Joseph for two matches following an on-field incident during the third ODI match against England at Kensington Oval, Barbados. This decision has been highly appreciated by the fans who lauded CWI for ensuring that the rules apply to all the players irrespective of their class performance or fame.
The third ODI match between the West Indies and England started with Windies winning the toss and deciding to bowl first. As per the details, during the 4th over of the first innings, Joseph was not happy and was frustrated with a field placement set by the Captain Shai Hope. On the fourth ball of the over, Joseph dismissed England batter, Jordan Cox and was caught out by Shai Hope.
However, after taking the wicket of the player, he refused to celebrate with his team and instead he immediately returned to his mark. Also, after the end of his over, Alzarri Joseph chose to leave the field unannounced and forced his team to begin the next over with only 10 fielders on the pitch.
Therefore, the CWI announced the ban on Alzarri Joseph for the next two games. They stated that they are committed to follow the highest levels of professionalism and discipline in the game.
The Director of Cricket West Indies, Miles Bascombe, said that Joseph’s behaviour did not align with the values that they carry and follow. He also said that such behaviour could not be ignored when a person is representing his nation on an international level.
He also continued to say that they have taken this decision to ensure that the situation is addressed and the person responsible for his/her actions is held. He added that they are committed to promote a culture of respect and discipline both on and off the field.
Alzarri Joseph said sorry to all his fans for his actions. He added that he has personally apologized to his Captain, Shai Hope, his teammates and the entire management for his actions. In that match, Joseph took 2 wickets and gave away 45 runs in 10 overs at an economy rate of 4.50.
The fans of the West Indies Cricket appreciated the management as they took to their social media accounts and lauded them. One person said that “I love you Joseph but this punishment was necessary. And, learn from this mistake and never repeat in your life.”
“Learn to respect your leaders, good job CWI. This ban was necessary for him to get a life-lesson,” noted another person.
