Hillsborough, Carriacou: Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government announced that music development and training in a more meaningful way have started in Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

According to the update by the Ministry, it follows the hiring of musician Neal Bassie Matheson under a partnership between the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government and the National Lotteries Authority.

Carriacou also announced that one of the first training held so far was a guitar lesson session conducted over a three (3) week period. The training was supported by the Cultural Secretariat led by Anderson Matheson.

Speaking at the closing ceremony Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Tevin Andrews, said his vision is to see musical bands throughout the communities.

There is a need, he said, for a collective approach to music development on the island, the minister outlined.

Referencing the recent community steelpan training organized by the Division of Youth, Minister Andrews said he would like to see the revitalization of the village steelpan groups.
