Caribbean to witness mobility expansion, new flights announced

Caribbean: A significant increase in the count of flights is announced in the region as a part of mobility expansion which will come into effect as of January 15, 2024. 

The announcement for the same has been made by WINAIR which is an international airways properly named as; Windward Islands Airways International. Interestingly, not only has the count increased, but also direct flight routes have been introduced.

Such an expansion would benefit the several Caribbean regions, including Dominica, St Kitts and Antigua. The connectivity of these countries will have transportation connectivity to various other countries like St Maarten as well.

Significantly, LIAT 1974, an Antigua-based Airways is ceasing its operations from January 24, 2024. No doubt, LIAT 2020 has already been announced. However, the transportation connectivity through this introduction would benefit the regions.

Moreover, from Antigua, there will be direct flights which will have connections to St Maarten, St Kitts and Dominica. Connecting to it, there will be 5 flights in a week which will head over to Dominica from Antigua. And, Two flights in a week will go to St Kitts. Additionally, there will be connectivity to St Maarten as well (twice or thrice a day).

Further, St Kitts will also have additional access to other regions; Dominica, St Maarten and St Kitts with this introduction. The flights announced for this are as follows:

• Two in a week from St Kitts to Dominica
• Three in a week from St Kitts to Antigua
• Two or Three every day from St Kitts to Maarten

Next, the newly added flights will give access to people from Dominica to the regions of Maarten, Antigua and St Kitts. In simple words, 2 or 3 flights in a day will be to St Maarten, 5 in a week to Antigua and 2 in a week to Dominica.

Shifting the focus towards the benefits to the region through this, such a transportation facility in the region will take the small islands towards overall growth and development, allowing them to meet the Sustainable Development Goals.
