Caribbean, West India: The Republic of India celebrated its 77th Independence Day on August 15, 2023 (Tuesday). On this occasion, the Asian country celebrated its independence from the British Empire; the nation gained freedom in the year 1947 and completed 76 years as a democratic nation.

On this auspicious occasion, the country was praised and congratulated by various international leaders. In this regard, some of the leaders and authorities of the Caribbean region also extended their wishes to the people and government of India. They wished to have great diplomatic ties with the Republic of India and anticipated strengthening the relations in the upcoming future.

With this regard, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, took his official social media and wished the authorities of India. He wished to celebrate the spirit of freedom and sovereignty, which shows the common values shared by both nations.

The official tweet by PM Roosevelt Skerrit read, “On this esteemed occasion of India’s Independence Day, the Government & people of Dominica extend their sincere congratulations & warmest greetings. As our nations celebrate the spirit of freedom and sovereignty, we reflect on the shared values that bind us.”

To this, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, extended a heartfelt thank you. “Thank you, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, for your wishes on our Independence Day,” PM Modi tweeted.

Similarly, the President of Guyana, Dr Mohammad Irfan Ali, also congratulated the Asian country on its 77th Independence Day. “On behalf of the Government and People of Guyana, I extend congratulations and best wishes to the Government and People of the Republic of India as they commemorate 77 years of independence,” Dr Irfaan Ali said.

The High Commission of India in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago also extended wishes. “The 77th Independence Day of India was marked by celebrations by the High Commission of India on August 15, 2023, as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. The fervour has continued to surround India@75. Members of the Indian community in Trinidad and Tobago and Grenada and Friends of India attended the celebrations,” the official post by the HC noted.

It also shared celebration video of Indian community and friends of India in Trinidad and Tobago and Grenada observing the Independence Day on August 15.
