Trinidad and Tobago: The recently concluded CAPA (Centre for Aviation) Airline Leadership Summit is anticipated to significantly impact the aviation sector of Trinidad and Tobago. This event is expected to enhance the country’s tourism sector and increase passenger numbers, particularly with the upcoming opening of the new ANR Robinson Airport Terminal in 2025.
This two-day conference was hosted from 22nd- 23rd August 2024 at the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. It brought over 200 senior executives and global aviation leaders to the shores of Trinidad and Tobago to examine and discuss the future of aviation in Latin America and the Caribbean.
It also presented a strategic opportunity for the Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation and the Airport Authority of Trinidad and Tobago to collaborate and work together with a vision to attract more airlift and, by extension, visitors through the expansion of their source markets.
Notably, Latin America and the Caribbean are recognized as some of the world’s fastest-growing aviation regions. However, this growth is increasingly concentrated in inter-continental and domestic markets.
Therefore, the summit was conducted in order to highlight all the challenges posed by varying regulatory standards, competition approaches, and aviation policies within the region.
This conference provided a platform to discuss strategies to improve regional connectivity amidst these diverse approaches and governmental shifts. The insights gained by the aviation sectors will play a crucial role in fostering more cohesive and efficient aviation development across Latin America and the Caribbean.
The topics discussed at the conference include, Technology & Distribution for embracing customer-centric retailing to enhance travel experiences. Along with that, the Caribbean Market was also discussed with a vision to explore the future of regional travel and tourism. Sustainability, being the main objective of the Caribbean nation was also covered in order to accelerate the new energy transition to support eco-friendly practices in aviation.
Moreover, during the conference, the hosting nation maintained a powerful presence throughout the event, with the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited (TTAL) working in collaboration with the Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation (DOTCAT).
Trinidad and Tobago showcased the vibrant beauty, rich cultural heritage to all the attendees of two-day conference. It offered 101 unforgettable activities, authentic experiences and thrilling adventures, making an experience like no other for all the visitors.
The Secretary of Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation, Tashia Burris also conducted a significant discussion during the CAPA Corner Segment of the summit. She highlighted the crucial link between the aviation and cruise industries and shared bold strategies to enhance regional connectivity.
She added that this conference has played a significant role in strengthening ties with the various airline sectors and that it will open doors to several opportunities for the development of the tourism sector of Trinidad and Tobago.
