PM Roosevelt Skerrit alerts citizens, urges to adopt cautious approach amid Tropical Storm

Roseau, Dominica: The Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit urged general public to exercise caution in wake of impending weather situation. He asked all the citizens to make necessary precautions from the tropical storm beryl and review their plans.
While ensuring the safety and security of all the residents, PM Skerrit alerted the citizens about the Tropical Storm Beryl which is racing towards the island chain and is expected to move across the Windward Islands on Monday.
The Prime Minister stated that the storm is not directly in its probable path but still residents should remain cautious and continue to monitor the progress and take all the precautionary actions. He asked them to listen to all the warning messages from the relevant local authorities and treat the information seriously.
Along with that, he also mentioned that this storm is expected to strengthen into a hurricane as it moves across the Windward Islands. The leader of the nation asked all the citizens to look around their homes and carry out the necessary preparedness activities to protect their property.
PM Skerrit stated that the national system should stands ready to provide support to all their citizens but still they should implement whatever they can in order to reduce the disastrous effects of the tropical storm on their lives and property.
“We pray for the safety of those in the direct path of Beryl. May God bless us all,” noted PM Skerrit.
The leader also warned fisher-folks and asked them to heed the warning messages and secure their vessels and equipment by today in order to prevent from any harmful effects.
Moreover, as per the information shared by Dominica Meteorological Service, the Beryl is expected to produce rainfall of 2 to 4 inches across Dominica which may produce localized flooding, landslides or falling of rocks in vulnerable areas.
According to them, the centre of Tropical Storm Beryl was located near latitude 9.8 N and longitude 45.5 W or about 975 miles or 1570 km east southeast of Barbados at 5 am. Beryl is now moving towards the west near 21 mph or 33km/h with maximum sustained winds which is now increased to near 50 mph or 85 km/h with higher gusts.
As per the forecast track of the Dominica Meteorological Service, the centre of the system is expected to move across the southern portion of the Windward Islands late Sunday night and Monday. Steady strengthening is forecast, and Beryl is expected to become a Hurricane tonight or Sunday.
