Canada CARICOM summit to be co-chaired by PM Roosevelt Skerrit
PM Skerrit and other Caribbean dignitaries will discuss various topics with the Canadian PM Justin Trudeau and other Canadian representatives at the Canada CARICOM Summit 2023.

Dominica’s Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit has been announced as the Co-Chair of the first Canada CARICOM Summit in Ottawa, Canada. He will be joined by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada who will act as his counter-part, or Co-Chair at the prestigious event.
The summit begins on the on the 17th and will end on the 19th of October, 2023. The theme for the event is “Strategic Partners for a Resilient Future” emphasizing the need for extensive cooperation between Canada and CARICOM nations.
The CARICOM Chairman will lead a dialogue with other Heads of States, so as to build sustainable economies which are open and inclusive as well. Other points of discussion on the agenda include addressing the ongoing humanitarian and political crisis in Haiti, cooperative trade and investment and tackling climate change.
The event will also draw Canadian businesses and their representatives, giving CARICOM nations the opportunity to explore commercial openings in the region.
While Prime Minister Skerrit is away co-chairing this summit, Dr Irving McIntyre, the Minister of Finance, economic development, climate resilience and Social Security will be the acting Prime Minister.
The profound importance of the event is reflected in the list of dignitaries who are going to take part in this summit. It is the coming together of a major power in the west, that is Canada, with a region of great strategic and economic significance, that is the Caribbean.
The economic potential of Caribbean nations is quite apparent to most and through CARICOM, the region is taking steps to ensure favorable collaborations with partners across the globe. This in itself is a commendable effort.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has risen once again as the preferred representative of the region. As he Co-Chairs the summit, he will undertake the task of elaborating the perspective of Caribbean nations on various topics.
In this manner, he will help bridge the space between the needs and expectations of the Caribbean and those of Canadian leaders and dignitaries.
