St. James, Barbados: Sandy Lane Green Monkey Golf Course placed in the 9th position of the 2024 edition of USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards list of 10 amazing Caribbean golf courses. It is considered a huge win for the island nation’s sporting department.
The nominees were selected by a panel of Caribbean and golf experts. Subsequently, the winners were decided on the basis of a voting system.
It is to be noted that the Grammy award recipient and American producer DJ Khaled and actor Mark Wahlberg have also played on this golf course a couple of times. The duo has also spotted real green monkeys on this spot, which is why the golf course is named Sandy Lane Green Monkey Golf Course.
USA Today, while recognizing the facilities provided by the course, stated that “The Green Monkey course features exposed rock, rolling greens and a serious elevation change for a memorable Caribbean golfing experience.”

Sandy Lane Green Monkey Golf Course
Sandy Lane’s Green Monkey Golf course, designed by Tom Fazio, is the second Caribbean course in history to host the World Golf Championships World Cup tournament. In this championship, the German team, including Marcel Siem, claimed victory over Scots Colin Montgomery and Marc Warren. The Golf course was named after Bajan green primates that considered the island nation as their home. There are some holes in the course, the most important of which is the par3 16th, which is situated in the centre of the valley floor and is protected by a giant bunker with a grass island in the middle carved in the shape of a monkey.
It is to be further added that the Green Monkey Golf Course is a part of the world-famous Sandy Lane resort.
