Barbados: Accident and Emergency Dept of Queen Elizabeth Hospital to remain close for a week
The government of Barbados and the authorities of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital have informed the general citizens of the nation that the Accident and Emergency Department (AED) of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital will witness closure for around a week – October 7 to 13.

Barbados: The government of Barbados and the authorities of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital have informed the general citizens of the nation that the Accident and Emergency Department (AED) of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital will witness closure for around a week – October 7 to 13.
The area will be closed because of the repairing work within the department. The work will hopefully increase the safety of the patients.
The government and authorities of the hospital noted, “The public is kindly asked to note that the AED – Accident and Emergency Department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital will be temporarily relocated to different areas throughout the hospital from Friday, October 7 2022, until Thursday, October 13, 2022, to facilitate maintenance within the department, to further improve patient safety.”
Acting Director of Medical Services, Dr Chaynie Williams, stated that “persons who need to access the AED, to do so via the Ambulance Yard,” and that “there will be Security detail present to guide patients.” The Ambulance Yard is located opposite the exit to the hospital on Martindale’s Road.
During the course of this temporary relocation, visitation to patients within the department will be restricted. Only children, the elderly, terminally ill patients and persons in police custody will be allowed one (1) visitor at a time.
The QEH Board of Management regrets any inconvenience this may cause, and we ask that you all continue to be patient with the authorities during this hour as we continue to improve the services within the Accident and Emergency Department.
The QEH is located in the capital city of Barbados – Bridgetown, and serves as the main general hospital for the southern part of the island country. The hospital is well-known for performing most of the surgeries and provides specialized care in medical areas, including – cardiac surgery, plastic surgery, psychotherapy, radiology, radiography, gynaecology, paediatrics, obstetrics and ophthalmology.
