Bahamian man imprisoned in US for $1.2 million credit card fraud

A 27-year-old Bahamian man has been imprisoned to 5 years for being involved in a US$1.2 million-dollar credit card fraud scheme. US District Judge – Alison J. Nathan sentenced Kevin Dion Rolle.  

This year, in the month of August, the 27-year-old was pleaded guilty before Judge Nathan to charge of wire fraud. Kevin was also ordered to make compensation in the amount of US$1,414,818.18 and a fine in the amount of US$1,504,818.18.

Kevin’s role was found in the “bust-out” scheme, whereby the credit card user applies for a credit card and incites numerous charges, with not having the intention to pay the balance, as per to the documents filed in the US Federal court, and statements made in the public proceedings till now. 

US Attorney for Southern District of New York – Damian Williams, and the Assistant Director-in-Charge of the New York Office of – Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) – Michael J. Driscoll, stated, “As part of his multi-year fraud scheme, Kevin submitted multiple credit card applications to American Express – (Amex), which often included or were supported by documentation containing false identifying information”. 

Following the statement, they informed that he received a credit card, after which he used it for some time to buy luxury items. 

The documents show that Kevin acquired a total of US$1,205,318.18 in Amex credit card charges which remain outstanding and collected US$209,500 in insurance proceeds based on a claim for jewellery items bought with the fraudulent Amex credit cards.

Following the statement, they added, “Kevin made various self-serving, false, and inconsistent statements to the court & the United States District Court for District of Puerto Rico, where he was first arrested regarding his personal background, possession of foreign passports and his purported ties to New York”. 

While Kevin was being arrested, an Irish passport was also recovered from him. Later it was found to be acquired with a fake United States passport. He has also claimed to be the president of the Bahamian college, which is not verified yet by FBI.
