Alphonso E. Bridgewater dies at 72, Dr. Terrance Drew mourns loss

Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis: Alphonso E. Bridgewater, a renowned name in the world of sports passed away on 10th April 2024 at the age of 72. Along with the administration, the entire nation is mourning the loss of a person who was a great influence on the Olympic movement and the broader sports development in the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis.
Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Terrance Drew expresses grief on the death of the President of the St. Kitts Nevis Olympic Committee. While taking to his Facebook account, he shared his picture and stated “Today, our hearts are heavy as we bid farewell to a true legend in the world of sports, Alphonso “Bridges” Bridgewater.”
Bridges was a beacon of inspiration who was more than just a leader who motivated and guided several athletes to excel on an international platform.
Bridges was always dedicated and passionate towards the field of sports. His continuous and tireless efforts have created a huge impact on the athletic community which has resulted in elevating the sports department of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
He has left such a legacy which will inspire many future generations to come and his achievements will continue to be a source of inspiration for many aspiring athletes.
While extending condolences to the loved ones of Bridges, he stated “Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time. May they find solace in the memories of his remarkable achievements and the profound impact he had on so many lives.”
Moreover, Minister of Foreign Affairs of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Denzil Douglas also expressed sorrow on the demise of Alphonso “Bridges” Bridgewater. While expressing grief, he took to his official Facebook account and said “Deeply saddened by the passing of a true Patriot, well known and respected Athletics Icon, Legend Alphonso “Bridges” Bridgewater.”
Bridges has represented St. Kitts and Nevis at the highest level on several occasions and has proudly raised the country’s National Flag around the globe which has touched the hearts of several people who want to excel in the field of sports.
