41-year-old man from Georgetown apprehended for possession of Narcotics

Georgetown, Guyana: Ray Yokum, a 41-year-old unemployed man, was charged with possession of Narcotics on Tuesday. A man is identified from Lot 58 Lime Street Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown.

Notably, he was apprehended by a rank from the Lusignan Police Outpost and charged with the following offences:

– Possession of Narcotics for the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to Section 5 (1) (a) (i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act of Chapter 10:10. He was caught with 40 grams of cocaine.

– Possession of Narcotics for the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to Section 5(1) (a) (i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act of Chapter 10:10 as ranks discovered 1,255 grams of Cannabis.

It is to be added in the officers’ remarks that at about 11:00 hours, the defendant appeared at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Lambert. On his appearance, the judge read both the charges to him.

However, he pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned till 2024-01-16.

As soon as this news gained limelight on social media platforms, many people came out with their opinions. One user, while reacting to the news, wrote

“Ray Ray ma G… told u a new beginning months ago blood… hope u get outta this mess soon. Enough blood.”

Such stances on crimes put the security of the nation at risk, and this is not the first time that police reported such cases just a few days back, a prison officer from New Amsterdam of Guyana was remanded for trafficking narcotics in the prison.

Notably, the officer is identified as 32-year-old Angelica Cameron, a resident of Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice. She was remanded to prison last Tuesday for the offence of possessing narcotics with the purpose of trafficking it.

Subsequently, Cameron was also charged with possessing 152 grams of drug at the Pententry Walk in New Amsterdam on the same day.

It is to be noted that Cameron will make her next appearance in court on December 27, 2023.
