Roseau, Dominica: The new, life-changing, spesh International Airport in the Commonwealth of Dominica will be open for long-haul flights in next three years. The construction work at the airport has been going at a very steady pace. By 2025, the Caribbean country will start welcoming flights from the US and Europe.
This airport will be a gem for the Caribbean country as it will create job opportunities and boost the tourism sector once it is completed.
International Airport of Dominica, after completion, will function as a bridge between prominent countries like the US, UK and Europe, as well as the small island country – Dominica. Visitors from around the world will have even easier access to truly experience the island known as the Caribbean’s best-kept secret.
The Government of Dominica has joined hands with the United Arab Emirates-based organisation Montreal Management Consultants Est (MMCE) to complete this highly-anticipated international airport. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on June 9, 2021. This project will be completed in “five phases”.
During the contract signing ceremony, Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, said, “The international airport project has been at the forefront of development talks for over three decades; the government went through conducting various studies and finalized Wesley as the ideal location.”
This signing was another step towards rebuilding the nation after its devastation in 2017 due to Hurricane Maria.
The project has been fully funded by the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme of Dominica. The worth of the project is around 1 billion Eastern Caribbean dollars.
It is worth noting that, MMCE has been working with the Dominica Government for the construction of numerous projects, including housing development and infrastructure, since 2016. These are projects have been fully or partially funded by the same funding method.
The Dominica International Airport project was a dream for almost all residents of Dominica, now it will become a reality in few years. Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, has said that it is a “proud moment” for every Dominican.
“It is a dream that many generations have seen, which is coming into reality. The construction will be completed by 2025,” Prime Minister Skerrit stated.
