The greeting post by the Prime Minister read, “Greetings. Today, I celebrate every Dominican woman for her unique contribution to the social, economic, and political development of our country. The Government of Dominica will continue to create equal opportunity and access for you to thrive and prosper in the pursuit of better futures for yourselves and your children, in line with the theme, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.” Happy International Women’s Day.

Many Dominican women thanked the Prime Minister – one wrote, “Thank you so much, Mr Prime Minister, God bless you and Dominica and its citizens and for doing such a fantastic job on the island after Hurricanes Irma and Maria,” yet another stated, “Thank you PM, blessings to you and your family.”

Every year, International Women’s Day is celebrated on the same date (March 8) across the world.

The day reminds us that the world is incomplete without the presence of women. The day also highlights that, at present, a lot has been achieved on that front, but there is still a long journey to be covered.

Every year, the day is celebrated under a specific theme, and the theme for 2022 is – “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”.

The theme would recognise the contribution of women in the leading changes adopted by women to ensure a sustainable future for all.

On the official website of IWD, the campaign theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is – ‘#BreakTheBias’. It has been designed to promote the “gender-equal world,” free of biased stereotypes and discrimination.
