Dominica: Parliamentary Representative of Roseau Central Constituency – Melissa Poponne-Skerrit praised the team of Dominica, which played in the OECS/ECCB International Netball tournament.

She stated that the team never gave up, despite injuries and ill players. She outlined that this was a new experience and the team must have learnt many things, and this opportunity must help them grow.

 

“Dominica, you played like champions during the OECS/ECCB International Netball tournament! You were sorely tested with five ill players and unexpected injuries; however, you never gave up! View this recent journey as a learning experience and an opportunity to grow,” the parliamentary representative mentioned.

 

She further took a moment to laud the team for improving the world ranking from two points, as Dominica reached 36 from 38 in the international Netball Series.

 

“I must applaud your improved netball world ranking from 38 to 36. You have every reason to be proud!” Melissa expressed.

 

She further promised the citizenships of Dominica to provide back to the Netball Association of Dominica. She further assured that her government would support the sporting area to enhance the sporting tourism and sporting revolution.

 

Ms Skerrit was quoted as, “I pledge my continued support to the Dominica Netball Association. Be assured that I will work assiduously to attract more international attention to all our sporting areas in accordance with the sporting revolution and sports tourism thrust in Roseau Central.”

 

 

The latest season of the OECS/ECCB International Netball Series came to an end on February 20, 2022. The tournament was hosted in Dominica. In 2022, the team of St Vincent and the Grenadines bagged the Gloria Ballantyne Trophy.

 

At that time, Prime Minister of SVG Ralph Gonsalves congratulated the team and stated, “Congratulations ladies, you did SVG proud by winning the OECS/ECCB Second International Series. Your fighting spirit and determination were on display throughout the competition and paid off ultimately in success.”
