West Indies star player Mikyle Louis fell short of 3 runs from his first-ever Test hundred, scoring 97 runs, putting his team in a commanding position at the end of the first day in a series against Bangladesh.
The opening batsman, Louis anchored the West Indies innings, playing a massive knock of 97 runs in 218 balls, hitting 9 fours. The game began with Bangladesh winning the toss and deciding to bowl first.
After the early departure of their Captain, Kraigg Brathwaite, Kittitian star player Mikyle sought to build a partnership with St Maarten’s Keacy Carty but failed to receive support from him either, as Carty got caught out by Taijul Islam in Taskin Ahmed’s delivery.
Following that, Kavem Hodge came to bat and contributed 25 runs for his team. Hodge was playing decently and forming a partnership with Louis but was run out for 25 after throw from Taijul.
After him Dominica’s Alick Athanaze came in to bat, he made several efforts and complemented Louis really well to push the run-rate. His impressive knock of 90 runs in 130 balls, set the tone of the dominance for the West Indies on the first day of the series.
Both Alick Athanaze and Mikyle Louis formed a solid 140 run partnership for the fourth wicket, turned out to be the backbone of the West Indies innings. Their partnership not only steadied the innings but also placed the team in a commanding position. Their exceptional performances frustrated the Bangladesh bowlers who had managed to keep the scoring rate in check during the first half of the day.
The day one of the West Indies test series against Bangladesh concluded with 250 runs on board by the former with 5 wickets down. The West Indies team will today go into a second straight day of batting, aiming to set a difficult target for the Bangladesh team to chase.
Also, this impressive knock by Mikyle Louis was highly appreciated by the West Indies cricket fan as well as the Kittitians. They appreciated him for his powerful innings and his ability to stand out in the crease, showcasing a dominating performance against Bangladesh.
The fans also expressed disappointment about not being able to witness the maiden test hundred by Louis. However, they boosted the confidence of the player by giving him support through their comments on social media accounts. One person wrote, “Great knock bro, it was truly a hard luck. I know you will definitely leave the mark with your exceptional batting skills.”
“Congratulations but my heart hurt that you didn’t get your century. There are many opportunities coming your way,” stated another person. Another person said, “It is okay bro, you are a star player. Several great opportunities are awaiting ahead.”
