West Indies Women's Cricket team aims for grand return to Test format after 2 decades

The West Indies Women’s team is all set to make a grand comeback to Test Cricket after almost a period of 20 long-standing years. This return by the women’s team in test format is anticipated to be a significant milestone, aiming to create huge development in the overall women’s cricket sector in the Caribbean region.

The return of West Indies women to Test Cricket also sheds light on the recognition and the accomplishments that the team has been receiving from across all the formats. The last time the West Indies Women played a Test Series was in 2003-2004.

Notably, the West Indies women’s cricket team toured Pakistan between February and April 2004 when they played one Test match and seven ODI games. The test match ended as a draw and ODI series was won by the Windies women winning the series by 5-2.

As per the details, the West Indies Women Cricket has since then competed in only 12 tests in total. The return of West Indies to Test Cricket is an opportunity for the team to test their skills and abilities in different conditions and formats.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced a new cycle for Women’s Test Cricket which has been scheduled to take place between 2025 and 2029. A total of 15 test teams have been named to compete in this cycle.

As per the schedule, the West Indies women will play their first Test Series in March 2026 against Australia. It will be followed by a series against England in April 2027 and an away series against South Africa in December 2028.

This comeback by the West Indies women cricket team to the test format will play a huge role in enhancing the capabilities of the players to play long-format cricket.
