Jakim Duncan of Marchand dies in fatal shooting, marks sixth homicide

Castries, Saint Lucia: Jakim Duncan, a 21-year-old male, was shot multiple times on Thursday, marking the sixth Homicide in the nation. It is to be noted that he was identified as a resident of Bagatella at Marchand.

The details of the incident have yet to be confirmed; however, according to the reports, it is believed that the victim was taken to the OKEU Hospital by the first responders from the Saint Lucia Fire Service.

As per the responder’s statement, he was picked up near the traffic lights in Marchand on January 18. Notably, this incident comes on the heels of two recent fatal shootings which occurred earlier in the week.

Noting this, both of the incidents took place in the Gros Islet, which shook the community’s concern. Moreover, the residents were alarmed by the rapid escalation of violence. They have taken to the media to voice their concerns and appeal for an end to such gun violence that is gripping the nation.

It is to be noted that the first incident claimed the life of a young man who was gunshot on Dauphin Road at Gros Islet on Monday. The Homicide was followed by another tragedy the very next day.

Eric Jean Heinis, a resident of Bonne Terre, was fatally shot down while on his way home. He was found with gunshot injuries on his body, and he was immediately taken to the hospital for medical aid. Unfortunately, the medical practitioner declared him dead on his arrival.

The Saint Lucian Police urged people to come forward and visit the near, by Police station if they have any information regarding the matter, which could aid in the ongoing investigations. They pledged to bring those responsible for the recent acts of violence to justice and restore a sense of security in the country.

Moreover, the police are intensifying efforts to address a concerning rise in Homicide on the island, with the latest incident marking the third shooting incident within just one week and the sixth since the beginning of 2024.
