Guyana: Frank Anthony meets Nursing Consultants from Brazil

Georgetown, Guyana: The Minister of Health – Dr Frank Anthony, met with two Nursing Consultants from Brazil at his Brickdam, Georgetown office on February 20, 2022.

As per the update by the Ministry, representing the Pan American Health Organisation or World Health Organisation (PAHO or WHO) Collaborating Centre for Nursing Development of the University of São Paulo were Professor Carla Ventura and Professor Fernanda Sousa.

The visiting team was accompanied by Dr Luis Felipe Codina, PAHO/WHO Representative in Guyana and Daniel Albrecht, Advisor, Health Systems and Services, Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO), Guyana Country Office. As per the post by the Ministry of Labour, the meeting was a continuation of the discussion regarding the implementation of technical cooperation activities and reviewing the nursing curriculum in Guyana.

Prior to this, last Saturday, Dr Frank Anthony, Minister of Health, met with Engineers and other officials from the Regional Democratic Council of Region Three to discuss the construction of the Regional Hospital at De Kinderen, West Coast Demerara.

On the same day, he also met with Officials from Region Four at the site in Diamond on the East Bank of Demerara that has been allocated for the Regional Hospital. Land preparation works are currently ongoing at both sites.

The Ministry has raised awareness about various problems and health diseases. Recently, the Ministry has expressed concern about childhood cancer. Health Ministry shared information about the symptoms of childhood cancer.

As per the update by the Ministry, signs of childhood cancer include – Severe headaches, unexplained weight loss, unexplained fever, and bone & joint pain. It also claimed that most children with cancer could be cured. One may talk to the doctor if one notices any warning signs.
