Caribbean: Dona Regis-Prosper, Secretary-General and CEO of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO), shared her initial plans to lead the intergovernmental body, which serves as the tourism development agency for 25 Caribbean countries and territories.
This announcement was made by the CEO of CTO during a live press briefing in the Cayman Islands earlier this week, following being appointed for the position.
During this conference, Prosper was accompanied by the Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Commissioners of Tourism of CTO, who also serves as the Minister of Tourism and Ports of Cayman Islands – Kenneth Bryan, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Tourism for the Cayman Islands – Rosa Harris.
Minister Bryan also addressed the audience and lauded Regis-Prosper for her “wealth of experience, a passion for tourism and a commitment to the Caribbean that aligns perfectly with our organisation’s vision”.
He further outlined that Prosper has always played a crucial role in both – private as well as public sectors. He was quoted saying, “Her qualified understanding of the challenges and opportunities we face positions her as an ideal leader to guide the organisation into a prosperous future.”
As per the authorities, as Secretary General, Regis-Prosper will be charged with the responsibilities of providing strategic direction on leadership to the CTO staff. She will also work closely with partners and stakeholders to advance the mission of the organisation. All the workings will be done in collaboration with authorities of more than two dozen countries and territories.
As per the details by Director Harris, the newly elected Secretary-General will also be responsible for addressing a range of issues faced by the tourism industry of the Caribbean, including advocacy, airlift, research, sustainability and resilience.
Regis-Prosper expressed her gratitude for stepping into the role of Secretary-General of CTO. “The Caribbean is a dynamic region with immense tourism potential. With the support of my Chairmanship and the CTO team, I am confident that we will implement the best strategy for leveraging our Caribbean brand for the benefit and greater good of the people of the Caribbean region,” Prosper was quoted saying.
She further assured that she will work closely with all the members and will work days and nights to grow the local tourism industry.
