Dominica: Dominica received twenty thousand doses of the Sinopharm vaccine from the People’s Republic of China.
During a virtual meeting of Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit and President Xi, President Xi committed to support Dominica against the COVID-19 pandemic by providing vaccines.
PM Skerrit stated, “Once again China has proven to be a good and reliable friend to developing countries like Dominica.”
Moreover, Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau Central and wife of PM Skerrit, Melissa Poponne Skerrit and Minister of public works and the Digital Economy, Cassanni Laville, and other members were the first to get immunized with the Sinopharm vaccine.
Furthermore, PM Skerrit added, “China’s commitment to making its vaccine more accessible to developing countries like Dominica is an encouraging and refreshing difference. Beijing has rightly considered the ‘vaccine a global public good’ – an attitude and policy which we unreservedly applaud.”
Dominica intends to have one of the highest rates of immunization in the world – and this addition of twenty thousand doses of the Sinopharm vaccine from the People’s Republic of China will complement ongoing efforts to help the government achieve this goal, PM added.
Additionally, Dominica has managed to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic on shores; and today, Dominica stands tall and proud that its tiny 267 square mile island because vaccination drive well on track to vaccinate up to 70 percent of its adult population by the end of this summer.
On the other hand, Dominica vaccinated around 11000 citizens until now.” We must never forget that at the height of this pandemic, when nations were fighting for and hoarding supplies of masks and other PPE’s, it was the People’s Republic of China who came to the nation’s rescue and sent us the first consignment of protective gear; for our frontline workers.” PM Skerrit added.
PM Skerrit stated, “there is something more special about a friend who finds you in the worst of times and when you are at your lowest. That is the type of friend that the People’s Republic of China has been to Dominica for sixteen years. Without the assistance of the People’s Republic of China, we would not have been so successful with our fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.”
