The West Indies A Team held their nerves to defeat their South African counterparts by one wicket at Willowmoore Park in Benoni in the first of the teams’ three 4-day matches.

The toss was won by South Africa A and they elected to bat first.

Batting of South Africa A:

Keegan Petersen, Tony de Zorzi and Clyde Fortuin scored half-centuries. Thus, South Africans declared on 287 for 9.

Bowling of West Indies A:

 Jayden Seales and Akeem Jordan took three wickets each by giving away 23 and 61 runs, respectively.

West Indies A batting:

The Windies replied with an impressive 314 for nine declared, with Tage Chanderpaul hitting 78 and Kavem Hodge 73 to take a 27-run lead into the 2nd innings.

South Africa bowling:

Tshepo Moreki took three wickets at a rate of 56 runs.

Meanwhile, Hardus Viljoen and Dane Piedt managed to take two wickets each.

Second Inning-

South Africa A batting:

Despite an excellent 104 from opener Neil Broom, the South Africans were knocked over for 250.

West Indies A bowling: 

Akeem Jordan picked up three wickets, while Shermon Lewis, Kevin Sinclair and Akeem Jordan managed to take two wickets each.

West Indies A batting:

Chasing 224 to win, the Windies lost nine wickets, but Sinclair kept his composure, scoring an unbeaten 80 to carry the WI A-Team over the line with one wicket to spare.

, Kirk McKenzie and Tagenarine Chanderpaul scored 36 and 35 runs, respectively.

South Africa A bowling:

Mihlali Mpongwana managed to take three wickets by giving away 25 runs.

Dane Piedt and Hardus Viljoen took two wickets each at a score of 58 and 43 runs, respectively.

Meanwhile, Tshepo Moreki and Duanne Olivier sent one player each back to the pavilion.

All in all, West Indies A won by one wicket against South Africa A.
