Roseau, Dominica: Parliamentary Representative of the Grand Bay constituency, Dr Vince Henderson, extended his heartiest congratulations towards Alick Athanaze, who has been selected as the newest member of the senior West Indies team.

The Parliamentary Representative and Planning, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, Sustainable Development, and Renewable Energy Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica took to social media and extended his best wishes. He stated, “Congratulations Alick… I commend Mr Alick Athanaze for his rise to the Senior Men’s West Indies Team. Well done, young man.”

Along with this, a congratulatory post was shared by the state-owned radio station – DBS Radio on social media. It notified, “Breaking News! Former West Indies under 19 player and the Windward Islands Volcanoes Captain, Alick Athanaze, set to be announced as the newest member of the senior Men West Indies team for the upcoming series.”

Furthermore, Dominica Cricket Association – DCA also congratulated the player and stated, “Congratulations Alick Athanaze. Alick Athanaze is to be announced as the newest Men West Indies team member for the upcoming series against South Africa. The team is expected to be officially announced this afternoon.”

Athanaze was born on December 7, 1998, in Dominica and started his career as a List A debut for West Indies Under-19 in the 2016-17 Regional Super 50.

He became one of the important players after he joined the West Indies squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. During this tournament, Athanze became the second West Indies player to score two centuries in a tournament, following making a score of 418 runs.

After such an outstanding performance, in June 2018, he was selected for the Cricket West Indies B Team squad for the Global T20 Canada tournament’s inaugural edition.

On December 2018, Athanze made his first-class debut for the Windward Islands during a Regional Four Day Competition 2018-19. Almost a year later, in October 2019, he became a member of the Windward Islands’ squad for the 2019–20 Regional Super50 tournament.
