According to UNC leader, the declaration on Friday 22nd January of a new process for Trinidad and Tobago’s citizens to apply for exemptions is a clear admission by the Minister of National Security that he has failed the people of Trinidad and Tobago with his poorly conceptualized exemption process.

Further, she added, “Minister Stuart Young should be ashamed that for over ten months he abandoned his constitutional accountabilities to the people of this nation by disappointing to implement a proper plan of action to repatriate citizens wishing to return home.”

Besides, she stated, for ten months, the Minister dismissed the cries of innocent citizens, leaving them in turmoil due to his “politics before people” approach.

UNC leader also stated that the intimidation from the lethal coronavirus facing our nation today is the same as it was ten months ago, and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago should have had a peculiar plan and a transparent and fair system in place.

According to Kamla, “the question on everyone’s minds is simply – why did it take Minister Young 10 months to introduce this new process? During that time, he left thousands of nationals on their own, restraining them from returning home.”

Furthermore, she stated, this new application process does not address the root cause of the problem. Citizens were not having problems applying but in getting an exemption because it still depends on him as Minister.

A Facebook user commented, “He was squeezed in a corner by the Law courts, threatened by the UNC and a vote of No Confidence, the Law itself and the Constitution and maybe his lawyers must have advised him to stop. I still want why he was doing it, Stewie ,Get legal advice before you do.”
