The first exercise was conducted by the officers of the Port of Spain Gang and Intelligence Unit and Canine Branch between 5 pm and 7:30 pm on Monday, December 11, 2023.
During the ongoing exercise, the authorities executed several search warrants, resulting in the arrest of a 19-year-old man, a resident of Nelson Street, charged with the offence of robbery.
Furthermore, the authorities proceeded to Pioneer Drive, Sea Lots. Upon reaching there, they conducted a thorough search of the area, leading to several discoveries:
- One AR-15 rifle
- One Glock 17 Pistol
- One Smith and Wesson pistol
- A total of 58 rounds of assorted ammunition
In addition, officers from the Port of Spain Task Force responded to information about criminal activity. Upon reaching the Sea Lots district at around 7:15 am, a search resulted in the arrest of two male suspects, aged 38 and 39, in connection with the possession of stolen items.
Similar incidents have occurred in the nation recently. A few days ago, officers of Trinidad and Tobago conducted an exercise that resulted in the seizure of narcotics and ammunition.
The Central Division Task Force and K9 Units proceeded to the Freeport and Couva district, where they went to a location on Milton Road, Couva, near a bridge, and seized 25 rounds of ammunition wrapped in a piece of cloth.
Subsequently, officials headed to Ramgoolie Trace, Freeport, where a search on some land revealed eight clear plastic bags containing cannabis, weighing 436 grams.
Higher-ranking authorities also conducted a search in the Tunapuna district, starting an exercise between 10 pm on Thursday, December 7, 2023, and 2 am on Friday, December 8, 2023. During the exercise, officials arrested a man for the possession of a firearm.
Such initiatives are an effective way to combat crime and have been appreciated by the residents of the island nation.
