Tracy Panton: I can’t support a budget that takes away from teachers and public officers

Belize: Tracy Taegar Panton is known to boost trade and investment between Belize and Taiwan. Tracy Taegar Panton’s statement that she cannot support a budget takes away from teachers and public officers appreciated by various residents.

She stated, “They are the collectors of our revenue. They are the educators of our future-generations. They are the protectors of law & order, Madam Speaker. They keep the separate peace, and they safeguard our public-safety.”

Furthermore, she added, “They are the defenders of our national sovereignty. They are the guardians of our general health. They are our first-responders in times of a national-emergency. At all times, under any circumstances, they should be ready to respond to the requirements of this country.”

“Madam-Speaker, let me make it categorically clear that, in good conscience, I cannot stand for a budget that seeks to take away from those we depend on every single-day to keep this nation going. How can we take away even the portion, Madam-Speaker, of their ability to take care of their families, educate their own children, and support their own communities’ well-being?” she added.

Consequently, she stated, “In times like these, Madam Speaker, our citizens need to have some spending power, or we run the risk of the economy coming to a complete standstill.”

A resident stated, “I do agree none of this is Teachers, or the public officers fault the country broke y should get cut cause they also have life bills most time they are taking care of us wat ever they job maybe I would never agree to that when our country was once down the hon Dean Oliver Barrow neva do half things this government the do people losing they job in a bad time things going up not rite.”

Another citizen commented, “Citizens of Belize do know how many teachers go into their pocket to feed children’s at school. Do you know teacher have to go into to there pocket again each year to get the class ready for the new school year?”
