Dominica’s Senior Men’s National Football Team received a great inspirational boost when Olympic Gold Medallist Thea Lafond Gadson graced their training session as the guest of honour.
Monday, September 2nd, 2024, the event in the lead-up to the country’s team getting ready to prepare for the Concacaf Nations League had become a proud and motivational moment for the nation.

A post on the Dominica Football Association’s Facebook page showed the warm welcome the National Team accorded Thea Lafond. The players were obviously looking forward to meeting the island’s Olympic hero who had made history in the Paris 2024 Olympics by winning Dominica’s first-ever gold medal in the Women’s Triple Jump.
Thea Lafond Gadson, a prelude of dominance and perseverance to the people of Dominica, made time available to address the team and gave words of encouragement that the players significantly needed to hear.

She spoke to them about discipline, resilience, and teamwork, the attributes that brought her to the pinnacle of her success across the world. She asked the footballers to carry those principles into their own pursuits as they represent Dominica in the Concacaf Nations League.
Thea Lafond Gadson also recently met Melissa Skerrit, an influential figure in the Dominica’s politics and social causes. They had discussions on various issues relating to sports development, youth empowerment, and community initiatives during the meeting.
Given Melissa Skerrit’s involvement in social programs for the betterment of life for Dominicans, she might well work with Thea Lafond Gadson on initiatives aimed at using sports as a tool for community development and youth engagement.
Thea’s visit occurs at a crucial period for the Senior Men’s National Football Team as they prepare for some of the toughest competitors in the region. The Concacaf Nations League is, therefore, a very important platform that has been accorded to Dominica to show the larger scale of their talent and determination.
Coaches and management alike will now have the presence of Thea Lafond as a good enough source of motivation to the winning mentality that propelled her to Olympic glory, that is now infused in this squad.
Thea Lafond Gadson’s achievements have ignited a wave of national pride, making her an example not just for aspiring athletes but for all Dominicans. Her journey from a small Caribbean Island to the pinnacle of Olympic success reinforces at every moment that anything is possible through hard work and dedication.
As the Senior Men’s National Football Team prepares to compete in their Concacaf Nations League matches, they do so with the inspiration of a true champion at their backs.
The Dominica Football Association also stands in lending support to both Thea Lafond Gadson and the National Team in one voice. Therefore, the feats achieved by Lafond Gadson will go on to spur and push them towards higher heights in putting Dominica’s flag high in international sports.
