Guyana: 39-year-old arrested for possessing firearm, ammunition & 2338 gm cannabis

Georgetown, Guyana: A 39-year-old labourer at First Street, Better Hope, East Coast Demerara, Guyana was arrested for the offence of possessing firearm, ammunition and 2338 grams of narcotics. The apprehension of the suspect was held under an intelligence-led operation conducted by the authorities. 

As per the details, the exercise was conducted on Wednesday and during the operation, the authorities found a black Taurus 9mm pistol along with a magazine containing 5 rounds of ammunition, which was concealed in a black plastic wrap. 

Following that, the authorities of Guyana also conducted a search on the eastern side of the yard. While the officers were conducting a search, they found one black plastic bag which was wrapped in transparent packages. 

Subsequently, the officials searched the plastic bag; they found several things in it. The bag contained leaves, stems and seeds, which were all suspected to be cannabis

The suspect was later told of his offence and was arrested for the same. He was taken to the Sparendaam Police Station, where the authorities weighed the cannabis found from the suspect, and on weighing, it amounted to 2338 grams. 

Therefore, the things found from the suspect include a firearm, ammunition and three bulky parcels. All these items were seized by the officials and were taken to the police station. The authorities are thoroughly investigating the matter to get the culprit punished for his offence. 

Several residents of the community took to their social media accounts and expressed their views and opinions about the news. 

One person commented, “Nobody has the right to possess firearms and ammunition without proper permission, it is wrong and the authorities should definitely take some strict action against it.”

Another person commented the following “Consumption of cannabis is not right for anyone, it is also wrong to have a firearm, one can use that in any manner.”

The residents of the community appreciate the authorities of Guyana that they are performing their duties diligently and ensuring to showcase the right path to the youth to follow.
