The state-owned Suriname Communications Service (CDS) announced recently that President Chandrikapersad Santokhi will be visiting China soon, which will mark his first visit to the Asian superpower.
The announcement came at the back of a visit from representatives from China’s Central Television (CCT) earlier this week.
The Suriname Communications Service (CDS) issued the following in its statement, “With the planned visit he aims to look ahead to the future, to develop concrete visions and explore opportunities for new partnerships in which increased investments will play a role.
Moreover, he strives to create opportunities for Surinamese business people in China and vice versa.”
While the CDS did not provide a specific date for the visit, it was revealed that CCTV representatives gave the President of Suriname a briefing which delineated the functioning of the channel and the services it provides.
CCTV acts as China’s state-owned national television channel which broadcasts through multiple television formats. It also lays claim to 51 channels which broadcast a variety of programs for more than one billion viewers in six languages.
The CDS highlighted the close relationship that China and Suriname have fostered between each other for the last 170 years, which is an impressive feat in itself. The two nations have collaborated in multiple fields, which has led to social and technological progress and economic growth for Suriname.
This is why the relationship between the two nations is seen as a crucial effort for both parties. While China has the potential to bring economic and technological benefits to Suriname which have and continue to help the nation progress, Suriname gives China a vital ally in the region.
Thus, President Santokhi’s visit is a landmark event that will be seen as a significant milestone in the flourishing relationship between China and Suriname, ushering in a new era for diplomatic discourse and collaboration between them.
