St Vincent and the Grenadines hosts its first-ever ITAL Festival: ROYALTY

St Vincent and the Grenadines witnessed a significant date in its cultural calendar, with the inaugural of first ever ITAL Festival: ROYALTY, held at the entrance of the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex on August 24, 2024.

This event brought together a splash of colour, conscious community, health, sustainability, and natural living under the Rastafarian banner.

It was a sensory feast of a festival, rich in fresh organic and unprocessed foods. It was well-represented, with over 30 vendors showcasing several plant-based dishes of fruits and vegetables.

Some of these local favourites include Bobby’s Fruit Stand, Kings and Queens Delight, and Kenny’s Bakery. Their emphasis on natural foods also placed medicinal marijuana products center stage, reflecting a broader Rastafarian commitment to holistic health.

A festival organized by Devon Gonsalves, and heavily contributed to by community members such as Patrick Jr and his wife Melia Dennie Gonsalves, exposed the general population to healthier food options that encouraged participants to live a lifestyle with nature in mind.

The event also provided an avenue to assist local small businesses, as vendors said they received favourable reviews from patrons. The going well of this event, means the festival to be a milestone while organizers arranging it annually, aspiring to attract visitors regionally and internationally.

This aspiration therefore aligns with the wider goal of positioning St Vincent and the Grenadines as a destination for those seeking wellness and cultural enrichment. The food was not the only attraction, however.

This was a cultural event-featuring live performances from local artists like Abuza Cyrus, a reggae and calypso singer who made sure there was a vibrant soundtrack to the day’s events. That combination of music, food and community, created an environment both festive and instructive, reflecting the powerful ways in which culture and wellness are intertwined.

Organizers would like to see the festival grow in the next couple of years, attracting more vendors and attendees. Organizers are calling on the corporate community to support the event, one that has the potential to push both healthy living and boosting of the local economy.

The ITAL Festival: ROYALTY has set the stage for what could become a cornerstone in St Vincent and the Grenadines for cultural appeal, merging the celebration of this island’s unique heritage with advocacy toward a healthier future.
