Guyana Warriors clinch 47-run victory over Barbados Royals, climbs to second spot

Guyana Warriors came out as the winner, climbing to the second position in the points table after a stellar all-round performance against Barbados Royals. The combined efforts by both batsman and bowlers helped the team in securing a commanding 47-run victory over the Royals in the 27th match of Caribbean Premier League 2024.

The game was played at the National Providence Stadium, Guyana and begun with the Barbados Royals, winning the toss and deciding to bowl first. After the Warriors saw the early departure of the openers, Shai Hope set the stage for the team, leading from the front, smashing an impressive 71 runs in 37 deliveries, hitting 5 sixes and 5 fours with an exceptional strike rate of 191.89.

He also got a support from the other end, forming a crucial partnership with Shimron Hetmyer who played an exceptional knock of 57 runs in 34 balls, smashing 3 sixes and 4 fours, playing his inning with a strike rate of 167.65.

After the electrifying performance by both Hope and Hetmyer, Warriors successfully managed to score 219 runs with the loss of 8 wickets. Following that, when Royals came for the bat, Quinton de Kock started well but couldn’t able to take up the charge, got leg before wicket out in Moeen Ali’s ball.

The Guyana Warriors, playing with 4 spinners, yet again proved to be exceptionally brilliant for the team. The likes of Motie, Tahir and Moeen got 7 between them. The pacers did go for a few towards the end but the early damage by the batters first and then their spinners ensured it another massive win for the team.

The bowlers then finished the job, with Moeen Ali taking 2-16, Imran Tahir dominating with 3-22, and Gudakesh Motie grabbing 3-42, sealing the victory.

Moreover, the Royals were 9 down even before 100, but the innings from Miller saved the team from an embarrassing defeat, playing the knock of 71 runs in 34 deliveries, hitting 5 sixes and 8 fours with an impressive strike rate of 208.82.

Shai Hope who was awarded the Player of the Match, stated that he had a different game plan. He stated that he enjoyed scoring some runs for his and batting with Hetmyer made the job much easier for them.

Meanwhile, the Captain of the team, Rovman Powell credited Warriors for playing well. He also mentioned about Miller’s captivating performance and it is truly great that is finding some form.
