Anderson Peters of Grenada landed a final round of 90.61m and set a new meeting record at the Lausanne Diamond League 2024 and claimed a gold medal for his nation in the Men’s Javelin throw.
This impressive throw by Anderson Peters surpassed the previous record of 90.16m held by Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago. He showcased his exceptional talent and skill, solidifying his position as one of the top javelin throwers in the world.
He was followed by Neeraj Chopra of India who produced his new season best 89.49m to finish 2nd in men’s javelin throw at the Lausanne Diamond League. The 2024 Diamond League is the annual series of outdoor track and field meetings which is organised by World Athletics. It gives a platform to the athletes to showcase their abilities, skills and techniques.
Following his stunning display of throw, Dickon Mitchell, the Prime Minister of Grenada extended congratulations to him and lauded Peters for his exceptional achievement. Along with that, the Prime Minister asked Peters to keep pushing his boundaries and keep showing the world that what the excellence offered by Grenada looks like.
The Prime Minister added that Peters is continuing to make Grenada shine on the international platform. He noted that his achievements are truly a great source of inspiration for all the aspiring athletes who wishes to represent their nation on an international platform.
Following his outstanding performance at the Lausanne Diamond League 2024, Anderson Peters expressed his excitement and stated that he is feeling exceptionally great to be able to finally throw over 90m again.
He stated that he is feeling grateful that he has achieved 90m mark, as he was dealing with physical injuries and then overcoming it mentally was extremely tough. While shedding light on his throw, Peters stated that he was more relaxed and confident and trusted his training and ability to throw the javelin really far.
Moreover, Peters also claimed the bronze medal in the final of the Men’s Javelin throw at the Paris Olympics 2024. He throws the javelin to his best mark of 88.54 m to claim the medal for his country. At that time, he failed to surpass Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem and India’s Neeraj Chopra who clinched gold and silver medal respectively with the throw of 92.97m and 89.45m.
While emphasising on the Paris Championship, he stated that he was expecting another medal but bronze was fine as the competition was extremely tough. He continued to talk about World Championship that will take place in Tokyo and expressed his desire of adding gold medal to his collection.
