Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: The officials from Rock & Dirt Limited led a team at St Peter and FT Williams Highway to cross-check the rehabilitation road work on both sites on Tuesday.

The team included the representatives of the various utility providers and consultants involved in the reconstruction of St Peter’s main road and the FT Williams Highway East Project. The officials provided updated information on the scope of work.

Recently, Minister of Public Infrastructure – Konris Maynard held a town hall meeting in St Peters on February 15 to discuss the restoration work of both places. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Terrance Drew, Ambassador Cedric Liburd and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sustainable Development – Sherilita (Shez) Dore-Tyson.

Minister Maynard and Director Gilbert revealed plans for an asset condition survey to begin later this month as road construction begins. They engaged in talks regarding the plans to widen the road, build new footpaths and install underground drainage, among other things.

Noting this, Director Gilbert urged the contractor to minimize dust pollution.

Residents also talked about the existing and anticipated challenges related to the project. There were concerns about detours that could cause significant inconvenience to commuting in the area and also about noise and dust pollution associated with the project.

Other residents expressed the need to have their inputs reflected in the project, to which Minister Maynard asked the public to share such inputs with the PWD and contractors.

It is to be noted that the walkthrough of both sites provided an opportunity for the contractor to outline the requirements that are needed from each service provider to ensure the smooth rollout and completion of the project.

The prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis assured the citizens that his government is trying every possible thing in their power and expressed his commitment to concluding the rehabilitation work as soon as possible. The authorities urged public cooperation during the work.
