Skye Faucher trolled for disrespecting Saint Lucia’s Flag at Miss Universe Pageant

Miss Universe Saint Lucia, Skye Faucher was trolled by the netizens of the country for dragging the national flag on the ground and disrespecting its symbolism at the 73^rd Miss Universe Pageant held in Mexico City.

Skye Faucher who was representing her country at the Miss Universe Pageant wore a cobalt-blue jumpsuit at the Miss Universe National Costumes show which took place on 14^th November, 2024. This show was a part of the pageant where every contestant showcased the rich cultural heritage and creativity of their nation through the costumes worn by them.

Miss Universe Saint Lucia wore an Olympic-themed national costume, which had white, black and yellow details. This costume was designed with a vision to pay respect to the national flag and tribute to Saint Lucia’s only Olympic medallist, Julien Alfred.

The management of the Miss Universe Saint Lucia said that this costume celebrates the exceptional achievement of Julien Alfred in Paris Olympics 2024. Alfred is the only and the first-ever Saint Lucian to win a Gold medal in the 100m race and a silver medal in the 200m race.

This costume worn by Skye Faucher received huge attention, however, failed to create any significant impact on the heart and minds of the audience. As, the netizens took to their social media accounts and criticized the management of Miss Universe Saint Lucia and Skye Faucher for the poor execution of this outfit and called it, a “total mess.”

One netizen said that this outfit showed a total lack of respect towards their flag. He added that they had always been taught about the importance of the flag which he felt was lacking in the presentation of this costume.

He called out the management and the contestant and said that they should have taken care of the execution before presenting it to the world, especially when they are representing Saint Lucia at the international platform.

However, some people appreciated the idea, concept and theme behind this outfit, but bashed the contestant for pulling it off terribly. “The concept is a good one, the execution was poor. Who approved the costumes before showing that to the world,” said another netizen. One person wrote, “That’s one of the biggest messes I’ve seen.”

The finals of the Miss Universe Pageant 2024 took place on Saturday, 16^th November. Denmark’s Victoria Kjaer became the newly crowned 73^rd Miss Universe, marking historic achievement in their beauty industry. She was followed by Mexico’s María Fernanda and Nigeria’s Cnidimma Adetshina, claiming 2^nd and 3^rd positions respectively.
