Saint Lucia: HelpAWS sheds light on fostering!

Castries, Saint Lucia: The animal welfare organisation based in Castries, Saint Lucia – HelpAWS, has recently shared the importance of fostering a pup through its official social media. While explaining the meaning of foster, the organisation also asked the people to foster a dog and provide them with a safe and secure tomorrow.

The social media post by the dog shelter noted, “What is a foster?” and replied, “A foster is a loving soul who takes in a pup temporarily and provides them with care, love, attention and home until they are able to find its forever family.”

“Fosters are one of the most crucial volunteer positions at HelpAWS. They are the final stepping stone for our pups who haven’t quite yet found their forever families. As an animal rescue, we depend on our foster families greatly. Especially when there are days we have last-minute flights to get these babies off to a better life,” it mentioned.

It added that many ask about the length of time fostering a pup will take, but truth be told, it can be anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. During that time, the pups are able to acclimate to the new climate and home environment. Foster homes also allow the pups to grow their confidence and learn new tricks, which they will take with them to their new families.

“We are always grateful to those who open their doors to help us, and most importantly, these babies, in their journey,” HelpAWS outlined.

The organisation also stated that “If you have ever considered fostering, this is your sign. We are in need of committed fosters who have open availability. We often get last-minute flight parents willing to fly dogs out to Canada, so we ask that fosters be willing to agree to last-minute requests fairly frequently.”

While concluding the post, the organisation asserted that fostering is not always easy, especially when it’s time to say goodbye, but the payoff is huge when one sees the pups grow in confidence and end up in their happily ever after.
