Castries, Saint Lucia: HelpAWS, an animal welfare organisation in Castries, Saint Lucia, shares the heart-wrenching story of the puppies recently adopted by them. It shared that one of the five adopted pups is very weak and fragile.

The social media post by the dog shelter read, “Imagine being small and scared, afraid of everything you see. To make matters worse, you’re sick, you’ve always been sick, and it’s not your fault; you were just born like that.”

Additionally, it noted that it is the case with one new boy we just took into our care. Their owner brought this litter of five to the shelter after she was unable to take care of them any longer. She had done her best but caring for them sadly became too much.

Ir added that these boys have only been on this earth for a short time but are already going through far too much. On top of being riddled with worms, which is all they’ve been excreting since they’ve been in Helpaws’ care, one of the little ones is having extreme difficulty walking. He can only use his hind legs to support himself and move around.

“You can tell by the look on his face that this is extremely strenuous for him. Our vet has advised us that this little guy may be suffering from neurological issues, which may be a result of a cerebellar lesion,” it informed the audience.

In addition to this, HelpAWS mentioned, “He stares at us, almost like he’s looking into our souls. Trying to explain what he feels that can’t be put into words. Though he may not know it yet, we are listening to every unspoken word! We are working tirelessly to get this baby healthy enough so that he can be sent to Canada for further analysis and treatment. We are also closely monitoring the rest of his siblings to make sure they are okay.”

In the end, the organisation outlined donations and continuous support. The post mentioned that getting this one pup to Canada for treatment is their utmost priority at this time, but the volunteers are going to need everyone’s help! If one would like to help contribute towards his care and to help to cover the cost of his medical bills, please consider donating via Etransfer, Paypal, or Zelle to donate@helpaws.com or via Venmo to @helpaws.
